Devlog 1
Hey, everyone!
I'd like to introduce myself: My name is Nenad, I'm currently a solo indie dev.
I'm almost 31. Only recently started doing game dev, but I have years of experience in web dev.
I originate from Serbia, but I currently live in Germany. Lovely country!
I have a 9-5 job, wife, one 2 year old and another one incoming. :)
With my limited time and about a month later, I've decided to upload a test of the game that I'm working on and possibly gather as much feedback as possible.
In the game's current state, I'm focusing on creating new, challenging but fun platforming experience!
My priorities are polishing gameplay and functionalities over good looks.
In the current upload, there are 2 levels.
I made the blue level first and added the dash ability, then I made that level to go around and test this one ability.
There were many improvements, going back and forward, testing and re-playing. Making sure that everything is doable and fair, but still fun and challenging!
While working on the Blue level, I tried to follow as many good dev practices as possible: State machine was a great challenge at first, but thanks to many quality content creators on the Youtube, I managed to grasp it, and now: I couldn't think about working without it.
If you're a dev reading this, please do yourself a favor and do implement a State machine. It's a small headache at start, but a huge save as project is progressing.
The red level is shorter on purpose, but it will be updated with more challenges. I won't make any promises, but it should be 2x as large as it is now at the end. Maybe even more, who knows. :)
With the red level, I started experimenting with the player animations and the sprite sheets that I personally made. While it looks horrible, I'm proud that I was able to make something. It's much better than having a static box jumping around...
Nothing much else to say right now... I should go to bed.
I hope you didn't fall asleep reading this and that it had sparked some curiosity!
See you for the next Devlog, planned some time before or after the New Year.
This one was a bit rushed, but I'll try to make the next one much more pleasant to read!
Thank you for your time, and hopefully a playtest with a feedback and see you next time!
Bye!
